hit a rough patch -The Unity Project Heather Schmid in Pakistan

These are the moments that musicians like me live for. These are what it is all about. This universal language that cuts through political unrest, cuts through language, cuts through the dramas of the day and connects. Just connects. History and present, patriotism and a foreigner, east and west, music is universal. These musical moments are universal. It is what connects us all. This isn’t some pop singer humming through a quick melody and throwing a beat down in a software in 5 minutes. These are musical, lyrical legends applying their life lessons, life struggles, life triumphs swirling them up and applying them into this moment. Because, you know, we all bring our successes, our training, our life lessons to our creative endeavors- thats what makes them so unique. Thats what this is all about. Its not about me, its not about a famous pakistani lyricist, or an accomplished pakistani composer. Its not about my Los Angles based music producer, or my killer guitar playing friend from Boston Symphony Orchestra, or about the Berklee Music producer. Its not about the musicians from rural villages -from each province of Pakistan playing their indigenous instrument like they had done so many times before… its about all of us. Its about the synergy of us all together. the collaboration of all of our life experiences into one. All of these vastly different life views, life struggles, accomplishments- putting them all together. To do that creatively and always have this thing- this product, this song, that we did together. Something that symbolizes putting all of the politics all of our differences aside and just bing human. just being artists together. Now, that is something.

Transformations!!!

They say “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” But,

I have also found “What doesn’t kill you makes you wiser.”

I just lived through the most profoundly, transformative 3

years of my life.

The past 3 years were amazing and harrowing.

They were heart-stoppingly dramatic and they were so

meaningful.

At one moment tormenting and then entirely miraculous.

Spectacular and mind blowing and then truly heart

renching. I learned it was never about me. I learned about

life and death and about humanity. I will never, ever be the

same. ever.

Most of all, I learned about the Transformative Power of Music.

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and I really

hope wiser” So, I took the essence of the experiences.

The soul of it, and collaborated with a few very definitely

wise creators, and we are ready to present it to you now.

This show is a mind, body and soul journey.

A Transformation.

The visions of spiritual healers.

Technology and Choreography.

A Connection to the force that is the essence of life.

Who we are. the secret of life.

As an artist, the hope is that you can hone your talent long

enough, and with enough time and expertise to become a

vehicle for that unspeakable, unknowable piece of essence

to communicate to the audience.

It is my hope, that in some way through practice and years

of study and hard work and discipline my instrument may

be the messenger delivering to the listener.

Peace, release of negativity, tranquility, solace, knowledge they

These are almost universally positive healing messages.

It is my practice to get out of the way and allow the story or words or melody to flow through so that I can just

story or words or melody to flow through so that I can just

be the transport.

Transformations.

2 days til Song!

2 days til the Song Live Performance. Below is the meaning behind the purpose of the Song, TV show and Music Video.

5 principles I use for Pakistan
(And you can too…)

1. Positivity counts.
Yes, I know the realities about security issues in Pakistan. But, it helps no one to be all negative nancy about it. I want to do something positive, so I have to speak positively. I share my happy memories and talk about all the things I do that are fun in Pakistan. You can too- talk about what you love too…I think we can all collectively swing the pendulum that way.

2. Be the change that you want to see.
This is my principle with Pakistan- You are welcome aboard my utopian ship. You are all so kind and grateful here and that is being the change too.
We are the majority. Small things- become big things. That is the purpose of the song and TV show. I want it to be a big thing- a really big thing- but even if its not- it will still count towards swinging the pendulum shift.

3. Secret night wishes
I make secret night wishes. Well, its one wish every night before I go to sleep. I think about the song, the TV show, the purpose of the project and I make a wish that my utopian ship will sail into vast wide ocean of success and happiness. I learned about this from a success book- positive night visualizations. Try it- let me know if it works for you. This is exactly the same as saying a dua- so I think you are also already doing this. Could you send one to Pelay Hum Pakistani Hay?

4. Social Media rules the new century.
We have the power. I mean the Arab spring was won by twitter! We can share, tag, forward, tweet, Instagram Pelay Hum Pakistani Hay into the social consciousness. We can spread the things we love and stand strong for.

5. Unity through example.
I fell in love with a cute Pakistani guy. Melding these two cultures was made of selfless compromises on both of our parts. I have been returning to Pakistan since our wedding because I feel embraced and part of the country.
So, when people question you about how can I sing a unity song for Pakistan you can say this-
– I have been coming to Pk since 1997.
-Our wedding was in Pakistan and ‘our collective family honeymoon’ as we call it was traveling the vast reaches of Pakistan and we had a blast!
– I have been hurt personally by how intense people get on both sides against America and against Pakistan.
-music is the only way I know how to express these experiences. I began this project as a response to the backlash I was getting in America and in Pakistan.

Welcome aboard the utopian ship we are about to set sail.
